I started working with children through my degree in sign language interpretation. It was love on my first day. I taught babies Sign Language. Everyday was a new adventure and I enjoyed the bonds I made with the children and parents. But the longer I worked there the more of a disconnection I noticed. The form of communication I created with the babies during the day did not transfer over to when parents came to take their child in the evening. Parents would be confused by their own child’s hand movements or sounds. The next day they would come in and ask what their baby meant by these gestures.
